Interim Protocols: Facility Based & Air Ambulance
Please note that that Emergency Medical Services Personnel Facility Based Scope of Practice Protocol and the Saskatchewan Air Ambulance Emergency Treatment Protocols have been approved, on an interim basis, by the College of Physicians and Surgeons (CPSS). These were approved on an interim basis to assure that the paramedics currently working in the air or in facility had the legal authority, in the form of approved protocols, to continue this work.
Qualified paramedics currently working in these areas are now able to continue to work within these two protocols on an interim basis. These protocols should not be relied upon to increase the scope of paramedics that were not currently working in air or facility.
SCoP is currently reviewing the educational packages used for these two protocols to ascertain training requirements. In addition, work is being done to determine the process for developing proper updated protocols for approval by CPSS on a more permanent basis.
Once new permanent protocols are approved, a potential increase of scope may be available for all qualified paramedics. In the meantime, current qualified members can be assured that there are a set of protocols which they can continue to act under but please remember to stay within these protocols as well as the Saskatchewan Emergency Treatment Protocols.
